Nigerian Super Eagles have advanced to the final of the African Cup of Nations after beating South Africa on penalties at the Stade de la Paix (Stadium of Peace) in Bouake, Ivory Coast.
The Eagles took the lead after team captain William Troost Ekong converted the penalty won by striker Victor Osimhen early in the second half.
However, South Africa player Mokoena equalised in the 90th minute sending the game to extra time, which ended in a stalemate and the game advanced to penalties.
Nigeria’s first choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali saved two penalties, while Kelechi Iheanacho scored the winning penalty to send the Eagles to the final of the Nations Cup.
Ivory coast also squeezed past The Republic of Congo by a lone goal in their own match and will now face Nigeria in the final.
